ABOUT Susan
SENIOR LITIGATION ATTORNEY
Recognizing at an early age that his daughter relished a good debate (about anything), Susan’s father began mentioning to her as early as kindergarten that she ought to consider being an attorney.
After obtaining a degree in English from the University of Pikeville, she decided to take time off and returned to her adopted hometown of Paintsville, Kentucky. For the better part of a decade, she worked for the Paintsville Independent School System as a substitute teacher, AmeriCorps member, assistant academic team coach, and kindergarten aide. Working closely with children every day, Susan saw the dramatic, often damaging impact that domestic relations could have on families if not handled efficiently and practically by counsel and the courts. Reading the proverbial tea leaves, she recognized this unique, valuable perspective as a natural segue to take the professional steps she always knew she’d wanted to take.
She relocated to Louisville to attend the Brandeis School of Law, where she was awarded her Juris Doctorate. She has been practicing family law in Louisville since then, working tirelessly to de-escalate high stress legal situations, and following her passion of helping protect children from the stressors that divorce and Family Court can bring. A creative negotiator, Susan uses her experience as a public school employee to keep what is best for the children of her clients in mind while going through the steps and procedures of litigation.
Susan is a sixth generation Appalachian and welcomes the opportunity to shatter the ‘backwards hillbilly’ stereotypes of the region. She frequently even wears shoes, though admittedly does prefer to be barefoot when she can.
Susan is an admitted, hopeless nerd, and has made peace with it. She’s an avid trivia player, with her team placing 3 rd in a national trivia contest a few years ago. She has lived in West Virginia, South Carolina, Virginia, Guam, and Kentucky. She crochets and knits as well as she litigates, of which friends and family happily reap the benefits.
